I have tried to install XBMC via the instructions at:

but synaptic cannot find the program.

I have added the software source and I have added the key. No errors are generated, I just cannot find the program.

Check the following:

• The PPA source has been entered fully and correctly
  
• You've updated your list of packages ("Reload")
  
• You're searching for xbmc in lower case (I'm not sure if Synaptic is case sensitive in it's search)

I tried sudo apt-get install and it worked out just fine. Not sure why synaptic did not find it though.

I had the same problem, you can't search for it in Synaptic Package Manager. However, you can choose the source for XBMC in the left pane, and see all the xbmc packages there...

Odd.
