Refresh rate and frame rate problems

Mine too. But that's expected (read the notice about recent svn builds)...We have to wait for a proper build before we can evaluate the change concerning frame rate reading and refresh rate changing.

Yup frame rate change stopped working here too...

Also, all latest builds (22676, 22701, 22704, 22781) completely fail at detecting the right resolution/refresh rates.

Only 1920x1080@60Hz is detected on my Kuro, whereas with 22516 I got all the other refresh rates (23.98, 24, 25, 30, 50 and 60). On 22516 frame rate changing was flawed anyway...

My system is Windows 7 RTM, ATI 4890 with latest drivers.

Have you tried this? http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=56872

Up until some minutes ago I had serious sync problems too.

Renderer was set to auto, but that has nothing to do with the ability to switch refreshrate. Thanks for the suggestion anyway, I appreciate it. Smile

True, but until some minutes ago xbmc detected wrong frame rates for some videos as well.

Same here. 22516 could use 23.98, 24, 25, 30, 50, 59, 60 on my Kuro.
Latest builds just 50Hz.
We have to wait for proper builds.

I hope that the fix in frame rate detection by bobo1on1 will work (and I guess that it is not responsible for breaking the refresh rate detection and changing)

I should have been clearer, the resolutions/refresh rates are not available at the Settings/Appearance/Screen level.

Hence, even if the frame rate was detected correctly... there would be no way of switching refresh rate.

I *think* this has probably been fixed by changesets 22788, 22790, 22791, 22804, 22805, 22807 and 22808.

Can't test it as there's no gl build available, but all these changes refer to resolutions being correctly populated and use, fps changing with resolution and vblank being correctly handled.

I'm hopeful. Smile

Tried installing 22814dx, definitely did not solve my problem with resolutions detection. Still just 1080p60 being detected.

Going back to 21930 I seem to have lost the capability of autoswitching refresh rate. I could swear it worked before.

Yes, same here. Still just 1080p50 detected as the one and only resolution.

Log for 21930: http://pastebin.org/16368

My TV tells me the following:

Opening a 25 fps video causes XBMC to try to go to 1080p@50, but then it quickly reverts to 1080@60 (a second, no more).

Opening a 24 fps video causes XBMC to simply stay at 1080p@60.

I would like to bring this old thread to attention once more. I have the same problems as mentioned in the first post still with latest Pre-release Camelot Alpha2.
Have not been able to test this before now as the automatic refresh change feature was broken for a while.

24Hz is sometimes used for 23.976fps movies (instead of the proper 23.976Hz)
59.94Hz is used for 23.976fps movies (HD DVD pulldown flag in stream read as 29.97fps)

Many 23.976fps movies with MPEG-2 stream and some MPEG-4 streams will play with really bad stuttering (like 15fps frame rate)

Read the fist page of the thread to see more detalied descriptions of all problems...

Windows doesn't provide use with a means to get fractional refreshrates. We guess that the driver rounds down.. Ie that 23 is 23.97 and 59 is 59.94 and so on..

If the driver doesn't, we are lost..

But in either case, we need debug logs of the issue. Preferable separate logs for the separate issues.

With my drivers:
23 = 23.976Hz
24 = 24Hz
25 = 25Hz
29 = 29.97Hz
30 = 30Hz
50 = 50Hz
59 = 59.94Hz
60 = 60Hz

I did provide logs and samples earlier for all problems regarding matching the correct refresh rate / frame rate.

I will do it again and cut small samples for each log...

The above is _exactly_ what we guess, yup.

So when the video file asks for 29.97, we request a refresh of 29, assuming that it will actually give us 29.97. Are you suggesting that it's actually giving something else?

Cheers,
Jonathan
