hi all
ive been trying to install xbmc on my laptop through ubuntu 9.04
i think ive followed all the instruction including enabling multiverse and universe repose but all i get from my terminal is this message

E: Broken packages

can someone tell me what i am doing wrong.

i tried that and this is the response

apt-get update && apt-get install -f
E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/apt/lists/lock - open (13 Permission denied)
E: Unable to lock the list directory

also the command i use to install xbmc is
apt-get install xbmc

It seems it was assumed you knew to run package management programs with sudo. :p

i seem to have done a full circle as i am now getting the same message as the one i started with even with the sudo command

nush, it may be worth noting that there is a text error in the wiki regarding the Ubuntu install. I've been trying to get in touch with the wiki administrators, but no luck via IRC, so I'm posting it here directly. Hope this helps you:

in the wiki (http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=HOW-TO_insta...Step_Guide), under the section for "Adding the XBMC Repo," the text reads

* Click "Add". For the Apt line type the following, substituting "jaunty" for your version:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc/ppa/ubuntu/ jaunty main

The Apt line *should* read:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main

Please note that between "ubuntu" and "jaunty" the wiki inserts both a forward slash and a space; the forward slash is erroneous.

i removed all previous references to xbmc them re-followed the instructions and it know works, so i am now trying to find my way around it.
