Home Multimedia Centre XBMC Based ?

Question
Hello,

I have installed XBMC with Ubuntu onto HP d530 desktop. It works fine, I can watch movies, pictures and so on, but those features are available in multimedia disks, which become cheaper every month.

Therefore I would like to make REAL multimedia centre i.e. all features implemented + Radio + DVBT. I have external (USB) tuner and I'd like to have it visible through XBMC. Has anyone implemented such features before? Could you send me step by step instruction how to do that?

do some research, lots of info on these forums

http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=28918

Keywords you're looking for are: pvr, vdr, mythtv, tvheadend.

Note that a proper solution is in development but youd be pleasantly surprised what is already achievable through myth:// and htsp:// sources.

EDIT: p.s. dont event bother comparing xbmc to other multimedia disk solutions.. lots of features that set this apart from the rest. hd skins, hd video, vdpau, plugin/script architecture to name just a few.

Nick8888 I didn't want to offend you talking about multimedia disks. You know I'm just newbie in Linux and I compared it to the standard I had installed.

Thank you for your help, I must learn a lot about it.... :-(

Anyway if you find a solution for the toppic I started, please let me know.

The only downside for me is i cant play recordings from XBMC, it works for some people perhaps the problem is I'm using newer vdr version.
