I'm a bit puzzled where to put this topic as it is electricity / CPU power related, but here it goes...
My computer details:
Intel E8200 @ 2.66Mhz stock speed
Gigabyte P35-DS3R
nVidia GT7600 Silent (no GPU-support available, i think)
OCZ SSD 60GB (Windows XPSP2 partition)
Hitachi 120GB 2.5' notebook drive (Linux partition)
Zalman MFC2 display (fan controller / power consumption display)

XBMC 9.11 beta1
My 'problem' is that XBMC is requiring a lot of CPU power & electricity when certain skins are loaded/active. Just running Windows XP SP2 it eats up 70 watts when idling.
Situation: XBMC running, Movie in Library selected (showing movie info), in idle...
Selected the standard PM3.HD skin:
- When running XBMC in the foreground it requires 77 watts
- When running XBMC in the background it requires 70 watts
Selected the Transparency! 2.0 skin:
- When running XBMC in the foreground it requires 84 watts
- When running XBMC in the background it requires 70 watts
Selected the standard Confluence skin:
- When running XBMC in the foreground it requires 86 watts
- When running XBMC in the background it requires 70 watts
Displaying the Shutdown menu, it requires an additional 2-3 watts. The Windows Task Manager's CPU listing show XBMC taking up approx 50% of all cpu power...
On my laptop (HP Compaq 6720s / C2D T5400 1.6Mhz / Intel GM3100 video / 4GB / OCZ SSD 60GB) similar things happen. When in forground & idling in Library mode, XBMC is requiring much more CPU power, thus making the laptop ventilation fans go into overdrive constantly.
Is this an area where progress can be made? Seeing the differences with these skins, I think it's worth to look into, especially since XBMC is also to work on (much) less powerfull computers.
Anyone who can shed some light on this subject is very welcome for his/her comments.
