Subtitles not being rendered properly
#1
I have an Anime clip with *.ass subtitles that I'm trying to play in XBMC 9.11 RC1 and not all of the characters are rendered properly. Is there something I can do to correct this? I've had this problem with Beta1 and Beta2 as well.

System info:
Core i7 920 @ 3.20Ghz
GA-EX58-UD3R
ATI HD4650 w/ Catalyst 9.11
Windows Vista Ultimate SP1

Pictures of the problem are below. Correctly rendered subs obtained using ffdshow.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

ASS/SSA is handled by libass. So, its probably a problem with how libass is seeing the fonts. The reason is that those squares, while not being what you want, are still rendered. That means the renderer is working as it should.

ffdshow uses a different library for subtitling called vobsub. While libass does a good job emulating all of the effects and stuff of ass/ssa subs and what vobsub can do, its not perfect.

I recommend perhaps posting a bug/issue with the libass team.
