Been searching the forums, however haven't found an answer to this question. If its already been discussed, please point me to the thread.
I have been using XBMC on modded xboxes for awhile now and just recently have been playing with putting together a HTPC using XBMCLive. I am having challenges booting with an EVGA 8600GTS video card. It stalls during boot up and hangs up on a login prompt:
unbuntu 9.10 XBMCLive tty1
username:
password:
I can type in a username, however it won't let me type in a password.
The odd thing is that the video card is working as it is displaying a picture. I tried swapping out the card for another nvidia card, a BFG 8400GS. With this card installed, XBMC boots fine and plays 1080p content just fine. Any ideas why the 8600GTS card hangs up? Unfortunately the 8400 is a borrowed card and needs to be returned. It also boots fine with the onboard video.
I downloaded and re-installed using the 9.11 R1 release, so as far as I know I am using the latest build. It hangs from both the XBMCLive CD or when installed to a hard drive.
Is there something about the 8600GTS cards that are not compatible?
Thanks for any assistance & let me know if you need any add'l info.
