XBMC, AC3 and SPDIF - not coming out in 5.1
#1
Question
I hooked up my Mac mini to my amplifier using an optical connector, into the headphone jack, set up XBMC for AC3 in the system/audio section and then tried playing the test file found here:

http://www.lynnemusic.com/surround.html

All I got was the left and right test channels. None of the other channels played. I double checked and the "down sample" to stereo was unchecked in the system/audio section.

It should be noted that this same test file plays fine, on all five speakers (I don't have a sub), when using VLC on the same system .

Can anyone tell me whether XBMC is able to play this file correctly?

Edit: Added configuration:

Audio hardware screen in XBMC:
- Audio output: digital
-- Dolby Digital (AC3) capable receiver: checked
-- DTS Capable Receiver: checked
- Audio output device: Built-in Ouput
- Downmix multichannel audio to stereo: unchecked

I have basically the same setup and have the same problem - any ideas?

It shows on my receiver:

FL - C - FR
SL - LFE - SR

But no rear channels? I have them hooked into the correct places. I don't even use the side speakers, but 5.1.
