New Build Question
#1
Ok, after many years of being my xbmc workhorse, I'm ready to kick the good ole xbox to the curb and take the plunge to something new. After considering many options I have decided on the following:

At3iont-i deluxe: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...i%20deluxe
w/ 2 gb ddr3 ram
a 30 gb ssd drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...-_-Product
a case: http://www.thermaltakestore.com/mozart-s...o7000.html
running Window 7 & xbmc for windows
+ possibly a bluray drive sometime in the future

I chose windows version over live because I would like to play around with hulu, netflix, and not lose the use of emulators I got hooked on with the original xbox, plus I know windows and am ignorant when it comes to linux.
Besides those things, i am just streaming all of my movies that were ripped to a server.

With what I have laying around already, this should come out to be about a $400 solution.

I guess the question is, would this setup be overkill for what I need; would somone recommend a cheaper option, i'm open to all ideas as this is my first foray outside of the original xbox.

Thanks!

one quick side note, for some other options people gave me, I need an optical out option as my reciever does not have an HDMI input.

Seems like a good build to me, a dual core Atom is certainly not overkill since you will be using Windows (rather than Linux, which is more at ease even on a single core).

Very close to what I have (except I have a Zotac board) and it rocks. Plays back the meanest x264s I have.

I do only use XBMC Live on it though....

Would 4gb of ram make any significant impact compared to 2?... I only ask, because when pricing everything out I found a couple of specials where 4gb's would only be about $10-15 more than 2gb,...but then again no reason wasting 10 bucks if it gives little benefit..

If you are going to just run xbmc live on it, and extra 2 gig isnt really going to give you any benefit.

Edit: oh see you are going to be running windows, still for just xbmc usage, prob won't make a difference.
