HTPC sees my SMB shares but XBMC does not!
#1
Hi guys,
This is now driving me crazy!
I recently built an HTPC for the living room and am now trying to setup all the software.
All my movies, TV shows, pictures and music are stored on my main PC in the bedroom and I want to share them with the HTPC in the living room.
the HTPC in the living room sees all my shares as does my sons PC in his bedroom. However, in XBMC when I try to "add source" and click SMB shares I get a grand total of absolutely NOTHING!
I have tried the following:
Setting permissions to EVERYONE
Setting permissions to HOMEGROUP
Setting permissions to EVERYONE & HOMEGROUP
Turning OFF homegroup all together
Used DHCP
Set a static IP on the server machine
Rebooted my routers
Rebooted all my PCs

Im using Win7 64bit on all machines.

Please help! Huh

Are you sure you have full access to your shared files? Sometimes they will show but not allow you to gain access.

Also, have you changed any network settings inside of XBMC?

Yea make sure for example if you have it set to DHCP you have it set on both server and in XBMC. It's what works for me. Or (this will sound stupid) if you are using static IPs that they are different.

Also you could try a crossover cable.

Cheers,
Crash

You can try to add it manually

smb://Computer Name/Folder Name

If you can see your smb share in windows, you will be able to add it that way.

Thanks guys, I spent a bit more time trying a few things and then powered down everything on the network, all PCs, routers, switches, laptops, even my wifes macbook and now its all sorted!
