Stuttering 1080p playback since upgrade to Crystal HD 2.0.0
#31
Hi Davilla,

thank you for your advise; I followed the steps from your link.
Adjusted partitioning to my own drive and made it work for component and
it works really really great now with my crystal bcm70015 card.

First it stuttered with 1080p, but after turning of all the extra's as you suggested before;both 720p an 1080p work perfect (with the 2 test movies I have).
XBMC is much faster and also the display quality is better somehow. 24 fps is no problem anymore!

It took some time to get it dual-boot and after partitioning I lost my apple tv content, but it was worth it. So I would advise people to make a linux partition in which XBMC runs and if you want to access itunes content you simple call bootAppleTV and your back.

I'm happy and I learned a lot from it, which is fun of course also.

With Regards,

Jan

would be helpful if you write a step-by-step guide for others to follow Big Grin

Only differences:

1)

When partitioning , I followed the 'original' instructions (which is linked to from within this url)
You have to calculate the start en end sectors based on your own harddrive.
Its not that hard If you follow the original instruction that was linked to. Here an explanation of the whole start and end sector stuff is given.

2)
when editing the xorg.conf, I adjusted the following to make it work in component instead of hdmi.

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Device0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
DefaultDepth 24
Option "NoLogo" "True"
Option "UseDisplayDevice" "TV"
Option "TVOutFormat" "COMPONENT"
Option "TVStandard" "HD1080i"
Option "TVOverScan" "0.80"
SubSection "Display"
Modes "1920x1080"
Depth 24
EndSubSection
EndSection

3)
Crystal HD

instead of

svn checkout http://crystalhd-for-osx.googlecode.com/...-osx-1.0.3

do

svn checkout http://crystalhd-for-osx.googlecode.com/...-osx-3.6.0

to get the latest!

4)

When making the backup. After you mount sdb2 (boot partition of the usb), copy all files from this partition somewhere on your harddrive, so you can copy them (using cyberduck or another sftp tool) later to your desktop computer. You need these files later on when creating the dual boot option.

5) I didn't install firefox
6) VNS server is very slow, so I uninstalled it later.

7) the bootAppleTV.sh can be accessed within xbmc, using the 'Executer' plugin, which you can install within xbmc; works great.

8) As I said; I lost my appleTV content and needed to do the factory restore
after partitioning and rebooting in appletv. (Not a big problem)

9) Installation of linux was ok, but the swap partition an the linux partition had to be assigned as such during the installation; this was not explicitly mentioned in the steps.

I didn't keep a record of all that I did, but I think these are the 'extra's ' I had to do or where I needed some time to figure things out.
