and does anyone know a way around it?

i have currently around 400 episodes of modern marvels and other history channel and science channel shows in .*avi format. they are formatted sxxexx - filename.avi. For some reason, xbmc will not recognize the files as tv shows. it displays the poster and art, but shows no episodes. if i go to videos and manually browse it displays them all.

How can i get xbmc to recognize these as the tv shows? any help would be greatly appreciated!

try right clicking on the file and set it to as unwatched

Most stumbles I've had with regard to TV shows in XBMC have been to do with the file naming.

Check thetvdb.com and make sure both the series folder name and the file series/episode name are both exactly as they are on the site. The important bit is the SXXEXX part, don't worry about the actual episode name as the scrapers will deal with that.

Something that caught me out for a while was series' named as the year they were released for some shows, such as "Tom and Jerry - S1940E01", that sort of thing. Just stick to thetvdb and you should be fine.
