I would like the Play button on the remote to play the last played, music, movie, TV Show etc.

Eg.
From the menu, if you are on Movies, and you press Play on the remote, then XBMC should play the last item you were watching.

Same for the other menu options, Music should continue the last track, playlist, Last.fm option etc

TV Shows should resume the last episode of whichever TV Show you were watching.
