It's been a while, so this is mostly a ping to Timdog82001 
I rebased on top of master (july 25). If you wanna try the up-to-date version of this feature, try my github repo https://github.com/garbear/xbmc
Basically, a lot's changed in the xbmc codebase. jsoncpp ripped out, globals refactored, locations now remembered across reboots. 6/7 of the original commits have been split into other PRs, 2 of which are still open. My branch above includes the [url=https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/303"]wifi improvements[/url] PR necessary for this feature to work optimally. If they get merged to trunk, I'll rebase them out to get a single squashed commit.
If you want, give it a try. I'll open a thread for this in the development forum in the next week or so.
