[LIVE] Struggling With Package Installations
#1
I've installed the Dharma RC2 XBMC Live, and am trying to get the VFD on my Antec Remote Fusion Black case working (or at least to the point where I can shut the thing off), and I am straight up struggling. I've been trying for the several days almost non-stop trying to figure out how to do this following any tutorial I could find that mentioned the VFD (I have 15C2:0038) and I keep running into the same problem: Almost everytime the tutorial/how-to tells me to do a apt-get install LCDproc or apt-get install automake or essentially anything involving apt-get, I end up with an error message telling me

"Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package automake is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source.
E: Package automake has no installation candidate"

And this message seems to be the norm for literally everything I've tried installing via apt-get so far... I've been lucky enough to get the remote working fine (although trying to change the key functions has been the same excersize in frustration, as I don't seem to have a Lircmap.xml or keymap.xml file anywhere) so I've kind of been trying to jump into these how-tos when I start to see mention of the VFD or LCD display. I've gotten far enough at one point that I had LCDproc-0.5.3 installed, but when I got to terminal I was just flooded with:

"lirc_imon: lcd_write: invalid payload size: 32 (expecting 8)"

So I ended up having to do a killall -9 on it, then uninstalled it to try and start over.... I got about halfway through this guide (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/IMON_VFD_and_LCD) right until I needed aclocal, automake, and autoconf and they weren't available and I couldn't get them using apt-get. It's been ages since I last used Linux, but by no means am I willing to give up on it. As long as someone can give me a push in the right direction I want to keep going.

I beg of someone to please save my poor media centre problems before my wife kills me for spending all this money on the HTPC and not being able to get it working the way I promised her lol

P.S. I just realized that it would probably help if I included the contents of my sources.list (Which I can never edit in read/write no matter how hard I try, but that's for another time):

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid-security main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid-updates main restricted universe multiverse

I'm really sorry for the wall of text, but I just wanted to be as detailed as I could in hopes that it would demonstrate how badly I want to figure this out!
