spencer785 Wrote:ok and one more question not sure if you would know this or not the case I bought is a mini itx case just wondering if there will be enough clearance for the i3 cpu stock cooler.
Per the review on http://www.silentpcreview.com/ the PSU in the case you ordered sits directly over the motherboard, it will be a tight fit, if it does fit I suspect you will have restricted airflow.

Ideally wait until you receive the parts and do a test fit, if its too tight look for an after market low profile cooler. No point buying one now as you may not need it.

Page 5 of their review shows the HSF clearance:

Doesn't look promising.

latest on-board video would be great with option to expand to a separate gpu in the future, just a couple of sata ports as this really doesn't need a big drive, everything is stored on a server so must be 10/100/1000 transfer and micro atx, wil strictly be hooked up to a 32 inch lcd tv by hdmi or pc port, rather hdmi

usb3 is not nessesary either, basicly i need it quiet and heat free and is supported by linux if i wish to change OS.

thank you

would like it to smoothly run xbmc and also view online content of hulu, netflix and others as well as browse

on the other hand,
i agree with PANiCnz regarding the possible restricted airflow though...

i thought the APEX case you chose had at least 1 Fan.... hmm...
maybe there's a way to fit a fan in there....

but if not,
you could then look for the other APEX case like this one here

Image
[CASE] Apex MI-100 Black mini-ITX ($53 + $0)
[FAN] Scythe SY1225SL12L 120mm ($14 + $2)

i know a 120mm fan is possible to mount in that case...
see here --> http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1369524

that would solve the air flow issue...

Hi yes i did order a Noctua 120mm fan to go in the side of the case because on the review from silentpc it said a 120mm fan with fit perfect in the side. Do you think with this fan it will be good airflow then.

The fan will no doubt improve the cases overall airflow, but if you look at where the HSF will go the PSU is directly above it. The HSF is designed to draw cool air down and over the CPU, but with a PSU directly above it you may run into problems.

If your set on the case you may want to investigate a PICO PSU.

be careful with the PSU because,
if you wanna run an INTEL CORE-I3,
better have the correct PSU power for that....

PicoPSU will become expensive to the point where u can just change Case i guess....

that case would be ok for a low power CPU like the ATOM's or CELERON's....

why not looks at this one http://www.mini-box.com/M350-universal-m...-enclosure

IF you have a mysql problem, find one of the 4 dozen threads already open.

Why do you insist on linking to Newegg with completely different parts when the guys already ordered everything? Complete non-constructive.

Because somewhere in the back of my mind I have hope that people actually read threads before ordering and assembling their over kill HTPC.

I should know by now after the 40th quad core 8GB of ram HTPC monster with ATI video card that no one actually does read previous build threads and insists on doing it over, wrongly and over priced.

Yes, it doesn't contain a hard drive, but I figure you can go SSD/Spinning disk at your own desire. OCZ has never done anything bad for me, there's another few sticks of ram within $5 price point, I just grabbed the literal cheapest.

And who cares if it's 1 core, I'm running a single core Celeron and it's benchmarked near the bottom of the Low End CPUs.

well darkscout, if your happy with your Single-Core, thats what it counts right?

but i dont agree with you in general,,,
you dont know what people need to do with their HTPC...

Example me,
think your setup box could handle what i need my HTPC to do?
Which is....

- Rip bluray discs to mkv formart
- Rip dvd discs to mkv format
- Convert dvd discs to avi format
- convert avi to dvd structure

think your setup will be strong enough for me
for not jumping off a bridge when doing these jobs?

i dont think so.... i repeat again, everybody has different needs...
