XBMC won't autostart - strange auth.log messages
#1
Hi

I have just upgraded my home server to Ubuntu 10.10 x64 server edition and followed this guide to try and install as a minimal system with XBMC auto starting. The intention is that the server is connected to my TV by a hdmi cable and should just boot into XBMC.

For some reason, XBMC does not autostart and I get this:

Code:
Jan 31 06:56:38 Server su[1590]: pam_unix(su:session): session opened for user xbmc by (uid=0)
Jan 31 06:56:53 Server su[1590]: pam_unix(su:session): session closed for user xbmc
Jan 31 06:56:53 Server su[1632]: Successful su for xbmc by root
Jan 31 06:56:53 Server su[1632]: + ??? root:xbmc

over and over in my /var/log/auth.log file.

I previoulsy had Ubuntu 9.04 running and the same setup seemed to work ok.

The only other thing installed on the system is a SAMBA server so there should not be anything conflicting.

I assume the upgrade from 9.04 to 10.10 has changed the way things auto start somehow but I have no idea how to fix it.

I bump this thread as it is exactly what's happening to me now Sad

Just did a small update to my Natty (Ubuntu 11.04) based xbmc-live setup.
Now the auth.log file is filed with this message (every 15sec):

Code:
Oct 24 16:10:59 localhost su[8181]: pam_unix(su:session): session opened for user xbmc by (uid=0)
Oct 24 16:11:15 localhost su[8181]: pam_unix(su:session): session closed for user xbmc
Oct 24 16:11:15 localhost su[8240]: Successful su for xbmc by root
Oct 24 16:11:15 localhost su[8240]: + ??? root:xbmc
Oct 24 16:11:15 localhost su[8240]: pam_unix(su:session): session opened for user xbmc by (uid=0)
Oct 24 16:11:30 localhost su[8240]: pam_unix(su:session): session closed for user xbmc
Oct 24 16:11:30 localhost su[8289]: Successful su for xbmc by root
Oct 24 16:11:30 localhost su[8289]: + ??? root:xbmc

This "+ ? ?? root:xbmc" message is very strange.

Thanks for any help...
