I currently have my xbmc setup running through hdmi to my tv and then audio out of tv to my reciever through spidif cable (reciever has no hdmi ports). no matter what i try i cant seem to get 5.1 sound to come out of the reciever.
I know i could go spidif strait to reciever, but im not keen on changing channels on the tv and reciever all the time. i have alot of devieces plugged into tv (PS3 xbox360 wii tivo dreambox)
Is this setup inadequate? Or could i be missing something on the software side?
I have tried xbmc live, atv, atv2 and windows setups.

TV: SAMSUNG 46" LA46A650A1FXXY LCD TV FULL HD SERIES 6
AV RECIEVER: SONY STR-K780 HOME THEATER AMP

If necessary i am willing to get a new reciever.

TVs rarely output 5.1 over optical (except for the built-in OTA tuner for example). Does 5.1 out work from the Xbox360 or PS3 HDMI inputs?
