I added a CNAME record forums.kodi.tv that points to the A record forum.kodi.tv
You should see a rewrite happening because of that.

Wow, I would have used mod_rewrite (no idea if Kodi uses apache), which would be overly complicated. I really wish I'd thought of the above last month for one forum in particular
