I even disabled it further (no lanczos if input > 1080; no lanczos if target > 1080) for the latest chromebox builds that users don't shoot theirselves in the toe ...

I followed your instructions to the letter! I'll flash the stable build again and double-check. Really, it's neither here nor there because yours is far superior anyway Smile

I try again.

If (!) you have set "Use HQ Scaling when scaling above: 20%" on a 1080p screen (1920x1080) the following will happen:

Video: 1920 x 1080 Scaler: Nearest Neighbour / Bilinear -> Lanczos 3 not (!) available
Video: 1280 x 720 Scaler: Lanczos3 is choosable
Video: 720 x 576 Scaler: Lanczos 3 is choosable

Do you get that?

Cause:
(1920 - 1280) / 1280 = 50% which is > 20%

while:
(1920 - 1920) / 1920 = 0 which is < 20 %

Yep I understand!
Would I be better with windows on the beebox?
No HD Audio support on windows. Not sure what is "better" for you :-)
I will just be running through a hdmi cable to tv for video and audio. I'm not bothered about hd audio. Is that what you mean?
Yes - go with windows. If performance sucks you can still come back to OpenELEC EGL world.
Thanks fritsch will give it a go.

Performance is great on Windows. Running very smooth.
But don't make the same mistake i did: Install Kodi 16 beta 1. I have no trouble at all running that build andit has full support for hardware decoding of HEVC.
Any bugs so far in using that build? I was just going to stick latest stable release on.

Not that I came across. Only got an error message using the Aeon Nox skin. Besides the message itselves, the skin works without a problem. So no idea what part of the skin is incompatible with the new build.

I suggest using the latest build. The Braswell-processor is rather new hardware: the later the build, the more support of hardware decoding, etc...
Hi,
I'm currently running Openelec 6.0 stable generic build from the official openelec Website on my Beebox N3150. As I read there are many improvements on fritsch's build lilke HEVC decoding and improved deinterlacing methods, I would like to switch form my current build to fritsch's version. Therefore I would like to ask two questions:

1. Which version from fritsch's repo (http://fritsch.fruehberger.net/openelec/) should I install to get a stable system with HEVC support and nice picture quality. If I'm right it has to be one of the v17_videoplayer versions (because they are built against kodi 16 beta 2, correct?)

2. How do I safely upgrade my system? Can I just take one of the methods described here http://wiki.openelec.tv/index.php/Updati...te_Methods? Do I have to uninstall/disable the installed addons first in order to avoid compatibility issues?
Put http://fritsch.fruehberger.net/openelec/...ritsch.tar into /storage/.update and reboot

Check if the "menus" are really black - if not -> System -> Video Output -> Use Limited Range: Yes Use Dithering: 8 bit

Also make sure to read the settings from the chromebox wiki (especially concerning Deinterlacing / Deinterlacing method.

Thank you for your very quick reply Smile

What's the precise difference between the v15_2 and v17 version? Is it also possible to downgrade the versions in the same manner (got a second machine running with v17 and would like to downgrade if you recommend it).
Difference: v15.2 was a snapshot I did after we got EGL working nicely for the first time. v17 is the continued development with uncountable number of fixes in player / video / audio and so on.
Hey guys I just been adding my memory and hard drive to beebox and noticed something was rattling about underneath the mobo. I have a new one on the way tomorrow.
I got my Beebox N3150 running great with fritsch' v17 OpenELEC build. As Mylo75, I also followed Jordan Hopfner's tripe boot tutorial, but quite some steps are different on this UEFI based system. Most important thing is you'll need a 512MB (I read 300MB will work too, but that's details) FAT32 partition with the 'boot' and 'esp' flags to get Windows to install. Anyway, this box is really impressive, Windows 10 and OpenELEC/Kodi run great.
