Somebody mentioned Kodi still works on pre-july FW on RK, iirc.

If anything, those kind of fragmented environments is a sure encouragement to *not* do anything specific for those...

I agree with Mo123. Kodi does work with pre July RK3288 firmware. I proved it out last night. This 15.1 with a lib hack works great with Wasser 2.0.3 but doesn't work with the new RK firmwares.

Here are the Zidoo Kodi 15.1 APKs. They only work on RK3368

They have been extracted from ZIDOO_X6 Pro_v1.0.16_ota and ZIDOO_X6 Pro_v1.0.18_ota

No. I wouldn't expect the KODI team to go through the entire list on a regular basis. That would be kind of silly.

However I would expect the KODI team, once they have been made a aware of a specific issue on 6 different hardware sets, that the WIKI does get updated to reflect the issue on just those entries.

Just tried the Zidoo apk's on RK3288 and they all quit as soon as you run that Kodi's.
I think Zidoo puts a check in their Kodi so it only runs on their firmware.

I just installed Rockchip Kodi 15.2, Wasser Kodi 15.2(both are based on Zidoo 15.1 source code on github) that are meant for RK3368 devices and they both now run on my RK3288 Smile
No more exiting as soon as video playback starts, no more only audio playback when clicking a video to play.
The video playback is really smooth, just like the old SPMC 14.2 used to be on older firmware.
There is also now options to turn on 3D video playback for videos that support it.
The codec in Acceleration, settings is called RockchipCodec.
I disabled Mediacodec and libstagefright, but they don't work by default as RockchipCodec overrides them by default.
I think passthrough should also work, but can't test that.
I use Firefly Lollipop firmware that I compiled myself if you are wondering.

Thanks! Can you please post a download link to the Rockchip Kodi 15.2 or tell me how I can get it?

You can try this Kodi, it's a bit more updated than Rockchip Kodi.

I use this firmware that I build - https://bitbucket.org/T-Firefly/firenow-lollipop

NOTICE For Kodi v16 "Jarvis"

Android Surface Rendering

Today we merged a change for Android which makes it possible for the GUI to be displayed at 1080p and the video playback at 4K. We now use the "android surface rendering" which is a default implementation of the Android system.
What this does is grant the ability for the device to render the Kodi GUI at say 1080p but actually do video playback at 4K.

This doesn't apply to amlogic devices with proper permissions, which will still use amcodec.

Any build from 24th October will have this change and should make any device that uses the proper implementation of the Android API.
Should you be able please test out these builds. Be warned that this is based on Kodi v16 and these are still devs builds and caution should be taken.

Disclaimer:
As we just implemented this change there could still be some minors bugs that could pop up with the variety of devices that will be solved during coming weeks.
In case you have a problem with video playback please provide proper debuglogs and information. Failing to do so the problem will be ignored.

Any device that is not able to do "android surface rendering" has not implemented the standard Android MediaCodec API the proper way. If this is the case please go ask your device manufacturer to do a proper job and release a fixed FW version. We as Team Kodi are not responsible for broken or bad firmware by device manufacturers. We will no longer implement any hacks or workarounds.

OK then all I am asking is, that since we all know that there is no chance in hell of Rikomagic fixing their crap, that you update the 4 Rikomagic "supported" entries in Android Hardware, from a green Yes to a red No.
I won't update anything as I don't even know what you are talking about. If it's the wiki page any one with a account can do that.

You as users should send a strong message to them to get their act together or they will loose the battle of the boxes.

Maybe you should use Wasser ROM 3.0.1 with Rockchip Kodi support?

Thanks! I just saw that it came out. I'll try it out and see how it goes.

Here's the link if anyone else needs it.

I tried the wasser-Kodi-15.2rc2.apk and whenever I tried anything it just exited Kodi and went back to the Android home screen.

Have gone back to v16 and sit here hoping someone can make my RK3288 box show videos better.

If you use the latest firmware for your RK3288 box after 20 September 2015, the Wasser Kodi/Rockchip Kodi won't exit and play videos fine.
Unfortunately people with no-name RK3288 tv boxes or manufacturers that abandoned their boxes will be left in the dark.
Eg. UGOOS UT3, Nagrace HPH NT-V6, Beelink R29 devices can all work with the Wasser/Rockchip Kodi perfectly.

I bought my box from Geekbuying and they keep telling me I have the latest firmware. Within the Android settings it has a System Update facility, which goes through the procedure of updating and always comes back as no updates available. The relevant piece of information is Build Number: rk3288-eng 4.4.2 KOT 49H eng.zz 20150519.170016 test-keys.

I have no idea how to check whether this is the latest firmware nor, if it is not, where to go to find the firmware I need. And don't just say Freaktab because I find it very difficult to navigate around that forum, that's my problem I know, but there it is.

The back of the box says it is an OTT CS918ii. It has a frequent video and audio stutter lasting a second which occurs equally inside and outside of Kodi so is an Android firmware problem.

To be honest I am quite likely going to buy a Windows/Intel box, probably a Zotac, about which other people on this forum have had positive things to say.

My own Windows PC, which is over 5 years old runs V16 seamlessly, however, if I were able to get my box to run properly, without needing a degree in computer science to achieve this, then I would stick with it.
