Hello first time on the forums sorry if I post in the wrong thread. My question is. Is there anyway to enable steams overlay inside kodi so I am able to see everything I would from steam as if I were playing a game. I tried to add Kodi as a nonsteam game but the overlay doesnt seem to work. Being able to do this would make Kodi perfect for everything I am trying to do with it.
Does anyone know?
If anyone has any clue at all on how to enable steam overlay within Kodi let me know.
No idea sorry
Still wondering if this is possible or not.
Have you tried to add kodi as a game to steam and launch it from the games tab. The overlay is used when games are launch from steam so it may work (try using Steam Big Picture).

Good luck.
You could try using Steam Launcher http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=157499

I said I tried this and launching steam through Kodi isn't a problem. As I have already stated in my first post I would like to receive messages while in Kodi.

I use steam launcher for Kodi. Launching steam is not a problem. Unless there is some option I have overlooked in steam launcher it will not help me receive steam messages while in Kodi.

There is no full integration with Steam and Kodi other than what Alienware have made for their PCs mainly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frPlbwZLjzg

Here's a guide for just the skin/interface http://kodicommunity.com/how-to-install-...n-on-kodi/

Don't know how well it will work with non-Alienware PCs. You can have a look here https://github.com/alienwaresoftware/Kodi for the source

Scroll down to the post where there are screenshots for info on installling it on non Alienware PCs... https://eu.alienwarearena.com/forums/thr...than-alpha

I haven't tried this myself so I couldn't tell you how well it may or may not work, also you may very well have to run Kodi 14 (Helix) or whatever version they're using unless it's version independent. Good luck!

Edit: At the end of the day you'll be spending far more time playing the games than just launching them. My advice would be to just bind a key/button to switch between big picture mode and kodi, unless you absolutely need to see steam notifications in Kodi. I personally think avoiding notifications is a bonus!

Thank you for taking the time to provide me with this information. I will try playing around with it for a bit. On the topic of notifications. They aren't a absolute must but they would be nice to have since I hate cellphones. So steam is my main line of communication to my friends.
Ahh, yea I totally understand that. I use Steam for chatting with a few friends as well, a lot easier than cellhones.
