Just seen a new Android S912 64bit box is available in the US. (I'm in the UK)

I can't find much in the way of reviews of the company, let alone the box and how their version of Kodi 17 performs.

https://boxtop-theater.myshopify.com/col...-1-kodi-17

It seems geared towards installing streaming addons via 'cloudword' which I have no interest in, but if it's a solid Kodi box with all the HD audio and 4K HDR output sorted it might be a great box.

TBD.

Avoid!
Unless you want to have a very expensive brick and want to promote piracy.
HD Audio will be a hit and miss, just read all the reviews online about all the stuttering and pass-through problems people have on the S912 processor and other Amlogic devices. Also Openelec is not available for the S912 so you can't even install that.

Far far from solid. Don't get dazzled by Smoke and Mirrors, bleeding edge tech specs and fancy marketing Websites with paid for product reviews.

AMLogic S912 and Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 is the worst possible combination of Hardware and Firmware going around at the moment. It is never wise to buy any brand new AMLogic device from anyone until the Firmware matures quite a lot, unless you want to be a guinea pig and put up with a lot of features not working properly.

See the bottom of this START HERE - Pick the Right Kodi Box (updated Oct 2016), post for problems with AML S912's and AML devices running Android 6.0 especially really should be avoided for semi-serious Kodi use.

Solid Kodi Box and Android are two words that do NOT belong in the same sentence.

ASUS Chromebox running LibreELEC Kodi is the Solid, proven, bullet proof 1080p Kodi media box choice.
Nice, lets throw this in the bullsh*t device pile. Thanks guys for clearing that up.

Guess I'll keep on waiting for the 'perfect' next gen hardware, Kaby Lake Nuc etc.
Is this problem still ongoing?
I have a Mach 8 (Android) and am looking to upgrade to the Mach 12 (Android).

Has firmware and patches been rolled out to fix any of the problems you describe?

Cheers
6 months now since my last post in this thread and not a lot has improved...

All AMLogic S912 devices have colorspace issues at the moment resulting in darker than normal Picture output.

99% of them will be running AML test Firmware with little care taken about what is sold with the box.
Most Sellers simply don't care and lack the skills to patch the underlying, buggy Android/Linux Kernel.
They would rather sell you another, upgraded Chipset - buggy box.

I doubt Kodi refresh switching is working.
5.1 DTS & HD Audio passthrough will be a major problem.

There is no stable LibreELEC release for S912 due to no Linux GPU drivers available from AMLogic.

If you need Kodi Krypton for OTA deinterlacing TV you have to use LibreELEC Kodi Krypton because OTA TV and PVR's have broken deinterlacing when using Android Kodi.

And to top it all off Mediacodec only Hardware acceleration, that Kodi Krypton uses exclusively is not working 100% on various Android Marshmallow boxes with poor Firmware. Android Lollipop and AMCodec Hardware acceleration was the High watermark when using Android Kodi Jarvis.

I no longer recommend Android Kodi running on unsupported MM Firmware AMLogic boxes for serious Kodi users anymore, due to numerous ongoing problems. And that doubly applies to dirt cheap Chinese sourced Android Boxes.

Use LibreELEC Kodi Krypton on a AML S905/S905X if you are serious about cheap, reliable working Kodi.

The best S912 Firmware you will find is MINIX with their U9-H, but that also has various issues, which are being fixed.
Thanks for you prompt response WRXTASY
Guess a start looking for an alternative to the Mach 12

Cheers
What do you think about something like this "Tronsmart Ara X5 Plus Win10 Cherry Trail Z8300" as an alternative to the Mach 12?
If you have an AMLogic S802 Mach 8, I would try flashing this LibreELEC Kodi Krypton image to a microSDHC card first:

Download this LE Install Software to flash, and when you get to Step (2) point it at the image above you downloaded:

LibreELEC image from here:

Otherwise like everybody else you would probably be better buying a very capable AMLogic S905(x) Box and running LibreELEC on it:
