Text and graphics (spinner) loog jagged on Macbook Pro 2017 (15").
Resolution is set at 1680x1050.
Build: Kodi 18.0 Alpha 2 (git 20180505)

Are those posters imported by a Kodi Krypton build, or is this all done fresh on your Mac by the Kodi Leia build? (WHICH ONE?!!?!11!??)

Right :-) Updated the description.
Imported with Leia. It looks like the whole UI including images, texts and UI elements are scaled with a very jaggy algorithm.

Do you have display calibration applied in kodi by any chance?

N, I've never touched that. Should I?

No - but if you would have touched that it would mean that kodi would apply scaling. Ensure that the tv is set to smart scan or whatever it is called so you really get an 1:1 Pixel mapping.

I'm not using an external monitor/tv on my MBP.

Might be related to Retina display then?

I assume so yes. Same with subtitles.
