Hello,

I use a Metric Halo 2882 Firewire soundcard, to monitor kodi in 5.1.

It's working perfectly with v17 (I downgraded to check), but in v18 the application crashes very often when I change from video (or stream).

As an exemple I use : videos I have, the Catchup TV and More Add-on and the Netflix Add-on.

When v18 is set on my Metric Halo in 5.1, and I switch between the sources of those 2 Addons and my videos,  it crashes very often.
When v18 is set on Built-in Output, in stereo (2.0), it doesn't crash.

I even tried to use another 5.1 soundcard (CSL USB 7.1), virtual 5.1 soundcard (like Soundflower, Loopback...) or use Aggregate devices, it crashes the same.

v17 always works...

Any idea ?
I'd really like to upgrade my installation for v18 (for the Netflix add-on), but it's not possible right now...

Thanks !!
Please provide crashlogs and such
OK I'll do that.
Hello, sorry I'm a newbie, I don't understand how to use the link provided for using the logs...
I've copy/paste my log in that page, and then what am I supposed to do ?

EDIT. I think I understood...

Is that link correct ?

In this exemple I used Soundflower (64 channels) as sound card... it produce the same kind of crash that my Metric Halo.
(the computer with the Metric Halo is not available right now, I'll do a log with it as soon as possible)
Here's a log of a crash with my Metric Halo :

> And merry Christmas, all of you working on that amazing application Smile
Thanks !!!
Need the apple crash report matching that last log file in addition. Which audio device have you selected (log shows a lot of available devices).
Ok Memphiz I’ll do that, thanks for your help.
In the last crash with the Metric Halo, i used the device « 2882 », which is the device system name of the Metric Halo.

I forgot an important detail : my Metric Halo works with the v17.6, BUT I have to create an aggregate device, with only the 2882 in it.
I call that aggregate device « Out Kodi », and that’s what I select in Kodi.
When I select directly the device « 2882 », I have issues too (application crashes or sound bugging and cuting).

So I tried of course the same with the v18, but this time the workaround doen’t work anymore...

I’ll post the apple log as soon as possible. Thanks !
Hello,

Here's is the crash report I found on user/library/logs/diagnosticsreports/, associated to the crash of post #5.

Thanks !
Hello,

I've been doing some test this morning...
And I had the same kind of crash using the basic Built-in Output 2.0 defined...

So I think my crashes are not related to my soundcard, finally...

Sorry, I thought I had tested everything before posting this.

Anyway, I'm still with a buggy version of Kodi, who crashes very often when I change of streaming source, I don't know why...
And when it works, between 2 crashes, the Netflix video stream is a bit lagging, while when I watch videos from my hard drive it's absolutely fluid...
When I check the CPU everything looks ok...
I don't understand
Can you try to disable the catchuptv addon for a test?
Hello Memphiz

I just did a test on another Mac, a "brand new" MacBook Pro, Osx 10.13.6, with a fresh new install from the last nighty built
(kodi-20190102-195fd1cd-master-x86_64)

Leaving all the options by default, including the sound (Built-in Output, 2.0) (so my soundcard is not involved...)

Only installed the Netflix plugin.

When I switch many times of video, it ALWAYS crashes at a point.

Here's the log of Kodi :

And here's the log of Apple :

Thanks for your help
Stay tuned - I will try to come up with a test build for you later. Good that you have a minimal setup for reproduction now - should make testing my bugfix easier.
OK Memphiz, I'm very thankful !!!

EDIT - To complete a bit my test, I suspect that it's not necessarily or exclusively related to the Netflix add-on...
Because it's the same with Catchup Tv & more...
A sudden crash when changing from stream input...

Well I let the pros search, as I understand nothing Smile
Good work
How exactly do you "change stream input"? I can't reproduce the crash on my test system yet. I use the Netflix add-on for testing. Would be great if you could line out the exact steps you take to get it crashing.

In the meantime I have a shot in the dark but I doubt it will do anything good for your case. Please in addition to provide complete reproduction steps try this version and report back:
