Birtybasset Wrote:hmmm, it's not quite working for me. I can follow the instructions and understand how it works no problem but right at the end I get:

After this operation, 733kB of additional disk space will be used.

Any ideas?
That is from copy and pasting. After it does this, hit the up arrow on your keyboard, hit enter again, and then hit Y, and it should work.

Can anyone help me understand what the problem is and how to solve it? Maybe there's a way to just not update that?
Thanks!!!
sudo mkdir /boot
then
sudo dpkg --configure -a
Then it should work.
I just updated, and there is a black horizontal bar at the top of my screen that is about 3" tall on my 50". I have tried stretching the screen in calibration, but it is just black and the calibration doesn't show up in that area. Any ideas? I am running 720p. The default Live install worked fine.

i could really use some help, I've bought a Asrock Ion 330-BD and in order to use Cyberlink PowerDVD for BluRay playback, I need to dualboot (Windows XP Pro and XBMC Live).
I made the XBMC Live and installed to USB, but when starting XBMC, under network settings, there is no IP address, it's greyed out and I can't figure out whats wrong, I'd like to follow your guide, but in order to do so i need to get Putty working.
I hope some of you guys might know what the problem could be?
PS. I'm fairly new to linix/Ubuntu, but have managed installing Ubuntu on the box and installing XBMC, I just had to leave that setup for BluRay disc playback...
Follow directions exactly and at Step 5: 'sudo apt-get install xbmc' i get this
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
xbmc: Depends: xbmc-common (= 9.11~alpha1-jaunty1) but 9.04.1-jaunty1 is to be installed
Depends: xbmc-skin-pm3-hd (= 9.11~alpha1-jaunty1) but 9.04.1-jaunty1 is to be installed
Depends: xbmc-web-pm3 (= 9.11~alpha1-jaunty1) but 9.04.1-jaunty1 is to be installed
E: Broken packages
Is this because this tut needs to be updated for 9.11Alpha?
I also use this tutorial and get more or les the same, why don't the just leave things be ;-)
brookz Wrote:Fixed it with this
"wget https://launchpad.net/~team-xbmc/+archiv...1_i386.deb"
"sudo dpkg -i libass3_0.9.6-1xbmc1_i386.deb"
Thanks brookz, I also had the same issue as you:
Code:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
xbmc: Depends: xbmc-common (= 9.11~alpha1-jaunty1) but 9.04.3+svn24143-jaunty1 is to be installed
Depends: xbmc-skin-pm3-hd (= 9.11~alpha1-jaunty1) but 9.04.3+svn24143-jaunty1 is to be installed
Depends: xbmc-web-pm3 (= 9.11~alpha1-jaunty1) but 9.04.3+svn24143-jaunty1 is to be installed
E: Broken packages
but the above solved it.
When i have install XBMC the bleeding edged way "sudo apt-get build-dep xbmc" how can i now update it to the new beta?
Can I follow this guide to upgrade Live 9.04.1 to "Bleeding Edge" ?
Doomstone Wrote:When i have install XBMC the bleeding edged way "sudo apt-get build-dep xbmc" how can i now update it to the new beta?
use this
Code:
wget https://launchpad.net/~team-xbmc/+archive/jaunty-ppa/+files/libass3_0.9.6-1xbmc1_i386.deb
sudo dpkg -i libass3_0.9.6-1xbmc1_i386.deb
sudo apt-get install xbmc-live
sudo reboot
it should then be the beta ?
why isn't my player making hardware decoding anymore? I cannot find the vdpau option anymore
I just did this and now when I restart I get;
Error: unable to open display

and then when I do startx it says

this is all from putty. screen is blank...
I get this when using the guide, is the server down?
Code:
root@XBMCLive:~# sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 6 4234534
Executing: gpg --ignore-time-conflict --no-options --no-default-keyring --secret -keyring /etc/apt/secring.gpg --trustdb-name /etc/apt/trustdb.gpg --keyring /etc /apt/trusted.gpg --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 64234534
gpg: requesting key 64234534 from hkp server keyserver.ubuntu.com
gpg: keyserver timed out
gpg: keyserver receive failed: keyserver error
is there another way to get it?
Edit, found it:

Maybe very handy to include this in the startpost?
will this guide still work for XBMCLive 9.11.
And what benefits are there to upgrading to the latest version of XBMC.
