Do you guys get HD passthrough options for HD audio in Fritsch's 6.0.95 (Kodi 15.2) build.

I have reverted back to this build asI was having problems with jarvis builds.

RE: ASRock Beebox (Braswell) - Shaddow825 - 2015-12-23

I do in 6.0.98 and I dont think I remember anything related to passthrough changing in 95-98. I stopped using passthrough in response to a lot of the latest comments I've been reading regarding it. As far as I know the only time there is an advantage to passthrough is when running Atmos sound now that the decoders can do all the HD formats. So I just output PCM to my receiver these days.

RE: ASRock Beebox (Braswell) - Mylo75 - 2015-12-23

I can't get 6.0.98 to work, all I get is a black screen.

I still think audio sounds better using passthrough when the receiver decodes it.

RE: ASRock Beebox (Braswell) - Shaddow825 - 2015-12-23

Hmm, weird. Can you ssh in and get logs to send them?

I haven't been able to tell any sort of difference. It also lets me keep the projector at 60p (well 59.94 actually so I don't have to do the .1% speedup with sync playback to display on bluray sources when it does pulldown). And supposedly my projector does the inverse telecine to get back to the original 24 frame per sec (or 23.976 actually). Otherwsie my projector takes apporx 10 sec on any refresh change and that got somewhat annoying when stopping and starting movies.

No problem here w/ HDMI passthru on 6.0.95

Works like a champ.

Make sure you (always) disable "sync playback to monitor" when using passthru. I think this build may automatically disable it when selected...I know future builds do.

I also had black screen problems w/ 6.0.98 on my Chromebox....which is why is stay with .95

If you want to try a Jarvis build on your Beebox, I have used Milhouse build # 1119 without any problems.

Any higher than that & you're on your own & don't say I didn't warn you. Big Grin

Yeah works fine for me, my receiver lights up with DTS-HD beautifully Smile

Will definitely not move to a non-EGL version again. Spoiled for life I guess... Wink
Kodi 17 is extremely interesting due to it's major redesign, but no option for my living room for the very same reason. So, I will simply keep enjoying 15.2 EGL for the time being.

I am hoping the db version between kodi v16 final and v17a1 at least in the beginning are the same. Or that he does a backport of current work to v16 fnial like he did for v15.x. It may be too far diverged for that tho at this point I do not know.

Cheers, I guess we could try the newer builds running from USB stick. I do still have one of Fritsch's Kodi 16 builds that I downloaded a while back, could try that!

Now I am pretty sure it's heat related. Last night watching a long movie and once it did it once the subsequent freeze/reboots were quicker each time. The only caveat is that I am using a 2.5 in ssd and its blocking all the holes in the bottom so there is no really air able to move through it. I am going to try and put the ssd outside the case temp as a test and see how that does over the next week or so. Then I will try a msata drive I can borrow from a friend.

Ohh and I turned on regular debug logging and tail'd the file through ssh to watch realtime and no log entries near the reboot :/

RE: ASRock Beebox (Braswell) - Karnis - 2015-12-24

In the manual it does not recommend using a 2.5" drive due to air flow/ heating issues. I highly recommend going with an mSATA drive for the Beebox.

In the meantime try standing the box on its' side & see if that helps with airflow/cooling.

RE: ASRock Beebox (Braswell) - Shaddow825 - 2015-12-25

Good call. I totally didn't see that. I'm going to do a few tests and order a msata if everything works out.

RE: ASRock Beebox (Braswell) - Jay123 - 2015-12-29

Could the presence of a 2.5 in disk also affect the Wifi connection quality? I just put together an N3000 Beebox, and it's practically useless, the Wifi is simply crappy. All other wifi-enabled gadgets I've tried in the same location and on the same network have no problems whatsoever. (With the exception for an old Rikomagic android stick...)

Make sure the antenna didn't get disconnected when you were putting things together. What version of kodi are you using where you got wifi to work?

RE: ASRock Beebox (Braswell) - Jay123 - 2015-12-29

Hi, I've not installed Kodi yet, due to the wifi problems. It is just too flaky. I just opened up the box and let the lid lie besides it, 2.5 in SSD still connected, and now it seems to work much better. (I'm copying off the old, used, SSD for backup, that's how I see the wifi activity, or lack of...) The question remains of course, is it closed lid that was the issue, or was it the SSD inside the box. Or something else. Sigh. Why couldn't they just have made a connection point for an external antenna on the box...

(PS. No, the antenna was not disconnected. Still soldered on, inside the box.)
