I wished IMDB would clean up their data base EMM gets stuck sometimes when you have 2-10 movies with same name and all are fake but for the last one. I am doing the ask me function also.

sorry to bother but I was using EMM for YAMJ and now I should add XBMC.

Obviously I'm looking at Frodo version.

Can you help me how it should be configured?

M

EMM for Frodo is not fully supported (yet). There are a couple of images and image paths that can’t be achieved just using settings. However it’s not that far off.
Assuming that each movie in its separate folder named after the movie title and each TV show in its separate folder named after the show title. For Frodo each movie, TV show and TV show season can have three different artwork images; poster, fanart and banner. They should be either jpg or png. For nfo files, you can have one for each movie called movie.nfo and one for each TV show, called tvshow.nfo. There’s an image and an nfo for each TV show episode as well, they share the name with the episode. The target can be the following, using the movie “Goldfinger” and the TV show “Hell on Wheels” (I’m also using the year in the folder name);

Goldfinger (1964)/banner.jpg
Goldfinger (1964)/fanart.jpg
Goldfinger (1964)/movie.nfo
Goldfinger (1964)/Goldfinger.mkv
Goldfinger (1964)/poster.jpg

Hell on Wheels (2011)/Season 01/
Hell on Wheels (2011)/Season 01/Hell on Wheels.S01E01.Pilot.720p.jpg
Hell on Wheels (2011)/Season 01/Hell on Wheels.S01E01.Pilot.720p.mkv
Hell on Wheels (2011)/Season 01/Hell on Wheels.S01E01.Pilot.720p.nfo
Hell on Wheels (2011)/Season 01/Hell on Wheels.S01E02.Immoral Mathematics.720p.jpg
Hell on Wheels (2011)/Season 01/Hell on Wheels.S01E02.Immoral Mathematics.720p.mkv
Hell on Wheels (2011)/Season 01/Hell on Wheels.S01E02.Immoral Mathematics.720p.nfo
Hell on Wheels (2011)/Season 01/...
Hell on Wheels (2011)/Season 02/
Hell on Wheels (2011)/Season 02/Hell on Wheels.S02E01.Viva La Mexico.720p.jpg
Hell on Wheels (2011)/Season 02/Hell on Wheels.S02E01.Viva La Mexico.720p.mkv
Hell on Wheels (2011)/Season 02/Hell on Wheels.S02E01.Viva La Mexico.720p.nfo
Hell on Wheels (2011)/Season 02/...
Hell on Wheels (2011)/banner.jpg
Hell on Wheels (2011)/fanart.jpg
Hell on Wheels (2011)/poster.jpg
Hell on Wheels (2011)/season-all-banner.jpg
Hell on Wheels (2011)/season-all-fanart.jpg
Hell on Wheels (2011)/season-all-poster.jpg
Hell on Wheels (2011)/season01-banner.jpg
Hell on Wheels (2011)/season01-fanart.jpg
Hell on Wheels (2011)/season01-poster.jpg
Hell on Wheels (2011)/season02-banner.jpg
Hell on Wheels (2011)/season02-fanart.jpg
Hell on Wheels (2011)/season02-poster.jpg
Hell on Wheels (2011)/tvshow.nfo

The closest I can get is using the following settings.

Movies:
Set file names, all in Edit->Settings->Movies->Files and Sources->File Naming
Poster - poster.jpg
Fanart - fanart.jpg
NFO - movie.nfo

TV shows:
Set image names, all in Edit->Settings->TV Shows->Files and Sources->File Naming
Show Posters - poster.jpg
Show Fanart - fanart.jpg
All Season Posters - season-all.jpg
Season Posters - <season>.jpg
Season Fanart - <season>-fanart.jpg
Episode Posters - <episode>.jpg
Episode Fanart - nothing
Show Banner - banner.jpg

This will leave things a bit from fully Frodo friendly. For movies, banners are missing, but they’re not used in any place by default (IIRC). For TV shows, see http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=116941&pid=1281421#pid1281421 for what I do to rename, move and find missing artwork.

I forgot one small thing. If you want flagging to show icons you may have to add Audio & Video Codec Mapping in Settings->Miscellaneous. XBMC does not by default recognize some codec IDs that EMM generates in NFOs. The most common is probably v_mpeg2. I've added
v_mpeg2 = mpeg2video
microsoft = wvc1

There are probably more. If you notice that there's no icon for the codec when checking detailed information about a video, it's likely because the NFO contained a value that has no corresponding image in XBMC. NOTE: This is skin dependent, the above reflects Confluence right now.

Humpe,
thank you very much! very detailed.

There is only one point I'm still confused on: which is the difference between thumb, a banner and poster?

Also I've seen in some progs the logo?

I'm quite confused on how they are used and which should be their format... before working on thousands of files I'd like to have more clear that... do you have screenshots or anythign that can help me?

They're talking about eventually switching all the artwork to a standardized format and phasing out the old naming scheme. For example, seasonXX.tbn will no longer work for season thumbs, instead it will be seasonxx-poster.jpg. Thanks!

I try to make it frodo-style until the final Frodo release.

Here's a summary of what works for me with TV shows in Frodo using Confluence skin. This does not cover individual episode artwork but that works just fine as it is.

general:
arttype = poster | banner | fanart
XX = season number, zero padded if below 10.

TV Show artwork name format: <arttype>.{jpg,png}
Examples:
- poster.jpg
- banner.jpg
- fanart.jpg

Season artwork name format: seasonXX-<arttype>.{jpg,png}
Examples:
- season01-poster.jpg
- season42-banner.jpg
- season142-fanart.jpg

All seasons artwork name format: season-all-<arttype>.{jpg,png}
Examples:
- season-all-poster.jpg
- season-all-banner.jpg
- season-all-fanart.jpg

Special episodes artwork name format: season-specials-<arttype>.{jpg,png}
Examples:
- season-specials-poster.jpg
- season-specials-banner.jpg
- season-specials-fanart.jpg

Real example: I use one folder for each TV show named <Show> (<year>) and each season is in a subfolder named Season XX (Season X also works, but I prefer Season XX since it's closer to seasonXX-<arttype>).

Step 1. Arrange initial files and folders

Dexter (2006)/
Dexter (2006)/Season 01/
Dexter (2006)/Season 02/
Dexter (2006)/Season 03/
...

Step 2. Run EMM results in

Dexter (2006)/
Dexter (2006)/Season 01/
Dexter (2006)/Season 01/Season 01.jpg
Dexter (2006)/Season 02/
Dexter (2006)/Season 02/Season 02.jpg
Dexter (2006)/Season 03/
Dexter (2006)/Season 03/Season 03.jpg
...
Dexter (2006)/fanart.jpg
Dexter (2006)/folder.jpg
Dexter (2006)/poster.jpg
Dexter (2006)/season-all.jpg
Dexter (2006)/tvshow.nfo

Step 3. Rearrange for Frodo

a)
- Move Season XX/Season XX.jpg => seasonXX-poster.jpg
- Move Season XX/Season XX-fanart.jpg => seasonXX-fanart.jpg
- Move season-all.jpg => season-all-poster.jpg

b)
- Fetch* season-all-fanart.jpg from <EmberShowDir>/fanart/fanart/original
- Fetch* banner.jpg from <EmberShowDir>/seriesposters/graphical
- Fetch* season-all-banner.jpg from <EmberShowDir>/seriesposters/seasonswide
- Fetch* seasonXX-banner.jpg from <EmberShowDir>/seasonposters/seasonswide

* Fetch is usually a manual scan, copy and rename. <EmberShowDir> is <EmberDir>/Temp/Shows/<ShowID>/...

and the result is

Dexter (2006)/
Dexter (2006)/Season 01/
Dexter (2006)/Season 02/
Dexter (2006)/Season 03/
...
Dexter (2006)/banner.jpg
Dexter (2006)/fanart.jpg
Dexter (2006)/poster.jpg
Dexter (2006)/season-all-banner.jpg
Dexter (2006)/season-all-fanart.jpg
Dexter (2006)/season-all-poster.jpg
Dexter (2006)/season01-banner.jpg
Dexter (2006)/season01-fanart.jpg
Dexter (2006)/season01-poster.jpg
Dexter (2006)/season02-banner.jpg
Dexter (2006)/season02-fanart.jpg
Dexter (2006)/season02-poster.jpg
Dexter (2006)/season03-banner.jpg
Dexter (2006)/season03-fanart.jpg
Dexter (2006)/season03-poster.jpg
...

Optional:
Step 4. Add clearart.png and logo.png for Transparency! skin
Step 5. Add theme.mp3 for tvtunes

It would be extremely nice to have step 3 covered in EMM but I guess b) requires a lot more than a). If I can find the time, I may have a crack at this myself, but it's been years since I touched anything VB.

For movies, the artwork works without manual steps. Another thing I do is change data in movie and episode nfo files a bit, but I have to do more testing to see what is really needed/wanted. My current approach is quite crude. I swap a whole section with data generated from ThumbGen.

It would be great to have an option to copy-rename existing files and not to re scrape them.
I have a huge library and now that I have to change name from yamj to xbmc frodo I cannot duplicate all images, it would be a mess

I've seen the usage of thumbs and thumbnails. AFAIK this is a generic name for icons/images. See also http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=thumbnails

Regarding the other two, they are used as:
poster - typically a portrait oriented image.
banner - typically a short landscape oriented image. For movies there's no default view that displays banners. For TV shows you'll find them in the views "Media Info 2" and "Wide"

About logo, the skin Transparency! http://xbmc.org/skins/transparency/ uses a file called logo.png. I haven't checked other skins. Transparency! uses at least one more png image that should be named clearart.png. A good place to find these is http://fanart.tv/

Do we have a scraper for fanart.tv? it's quite cool!

Check out the XBMC add-on Artwork Downloader.

RE: New Home for Ember Media Manager (Official Thread) - Randall Lind - 2013-01-14

I like TheRenamer but never used it for movies. I was looking around in EMM and see under settings TV Shows SHOW BANNER and it has banner.jpg listed. What is this for? I thought it was stated EMM didn't support banners for TV Shows yet.

Dan Copper said it was one of his wishes to add banner support.

Yes in MediaElch but not EMM

I've been testing MediaElch under windows the last few days and its been stable for me and works well, supports all image types for Eden or Frodo because of the way its been implemented.

Still reluctant to leave EMM so hope it gets updated.

RE: New Home for Ember Media Manager (Official Thread) - m.savazzi - 2013-01-14

My heart is still on EMM, I think is far better (no offence for MediaElch but is till quite young).
Functionalities like lock of the fields are usefull for someone like me that need other languages than English.
Also the fanart download and selection is very nice in EmberMediaManager

We just need a small update to support all the functionalities of Frodo! Big Grin

Boderick, Dan,
who is managing Github? the sources has not been changes for long and the fix2 is not included in there.

I would advise to update them so we can help with the development.

I like Media Companion and may jump ship for that if and when EMM dies. I think I was having issues with MediaElch crashing I don't remember what the issue was when I tried it.
