[RELEASE] Super Favourites AKA Super-Addon Creator - ed_davidson - 2016-04-20

I don't think it is going to work the way I was expecting Sean. The reason is to get the download function to show up I have to have global menu enabled.
When using pbs kids addon for example one the show starts playing, I'm guessing the standard context menu won't show up anyway.
Thanks for trying.

No you don't, that's the whole point - unless we are talking on cross purposes.

You just need the "Download - Show item on standard context menu" enabled

Then when you are streaming video, you just need to get the standard menu to show up and then select download from it.

I'm thinking of having it always remember the last streamed video and download that, that way you want have to have it actually streaming when you select download

It seems to me that the benefits of which context menu appears first - i.e. your vs. the standard - vary depending on the context. The fact that there are cases where you cannot add a menu item to invoke your context menu to the bottom of the standard context menu, such as for movies/shows listed by Exodus/SALTS, and that you added a white list for people who choose to make your context menu first (or as you call it global) only proves this point. I had thought of proposing you rename the "white list" (of exceptions) to the more appropriate sounding "black list" and offer the choice of having either such a black list (of sole exceptions) or a white list of sole inclusions, but considering how complicated it already is, and more complicated this would make things, might it not be easier, assuming it's possible, to simply offer an alternative hot key for invoking your super favourites context menu, instead letting the 'C' key simply invoke the standard unmodified (by you) context menu?! That way, users have the choice of bringing up whichever context menu they want, depending on the context, without the inefficiencies of ever having to navigate through one context menu in order to get to the next?! You could offer the same sorts of choices for this key that you already offer for your "Quickstart hotkey" (i.e. programmable or a few safe predefined choices - perhaps something nearby the 'C' key, such as the "F" key - for "Favourites"!)

Doesn't this sound much more efficient?

I guess the downside from a usability perspective is that it would then preclude access to your context menu via the mouse - a significant consideration. So just an option then? Doesn't exactly eliminate the complications I mentioned then, does it? Bummer...

Let me know what you think...

I'll have a think, but just in case you didn't realize (which it sounds like you didn't) if the SF menu is showing, you can simply hit the menu button again to switch to the standard menu, ,so no inefficient navigating Big Grin

Hey cool - no I didn't know that!

But I guess it only works for your global context menu. Is there anyway to make it work for the standard context menu? That would eliminate at least one reason for needing to turn on your global context menu in the first place, namely to retain access to it from dynamic Exodus/SALTS style movies/shows lists to which you are unable to add the menu item for invoking your context menu.

Let me know. Would be great, if so!

Maybe I'm being an idiot but I can't get it to work. Maybe Sean, could you send me the settings.xml file for the userdata.

Have you tried downloading a YouTube video for example.
If I disable super favourites, I get no context menu in youtube anyway, so maybe it won't work.
Like you were saying, if you don't get a standard context menu come up it won't work.

Just tested with YouTube and it works fine.

Here is the menu, you can see YouTube in the background:

And here is a screenshot of the settings:

You can also see the download progress in the bottom right.

What version of Kodi are you running?

If you can in fact do this, an added major bonus would be that you could then have pressing the context menu key a second time not only switch from the first context menu to the second, but simultaneously actually toggle the future invocation order of the two so that the second one becomes the first and the first becomes the second from then on (until you press the key twice again to switch the order back)! That way, you can always have your context menu of choice be only one key press away for whatever working mode you are currently in that requires constant access to it!

You could then use this same methodology when the user is navigating through their super favourites themselves, so that they can not only switch between the first SF context menu and the second, but toggle their order as well. They could, for example, then have the edit super favourite context menu come up first every time if they're doing a lot of editing of their super favourites, then switch the order back when they're done!

Again, let me know what you think...

I like the idea!

However, team Kodi are completely overhauling the context menu stuff for Krypton (including removing the ability for addons to prevent other addons adding to their menus), so I'm going to wait and see how things develop with that first.

I am however working on something very exciting at the moment Smile

When YouTube is playing do not press C as this will open the Now Playing menu, from which you cannot then initiate the standard Kodi (and customizable) context menu (you will notice in your last screen shot that that is not the "real" context menu - I think this is probably an oversight on Team Kodi's part).

When YouTube is playing first hit back, to "re-enter" the YouTube addon, then initiate the context menu.

Also you have code running on your machine, that even the "team" who released it do not know what it does - that is a massive security risk (and rather foolish) so I can't help you any more (take it up with them), sorry Sad

This (my proposal that is) would almost, if not quite completely, also eliminate the need for your white list (as long as the standard context menu were the default first context menu at Kodi startup)!

RE: [RELEASE] Super Favourites AKA Super-Addon Creator - houdini - 2016-04-21

Hey Spoyser,

As long as the user hasn't defined global overrides, wouldn't it be cool, and perfectly consistent with Kodi Favourite behaviour, if you mapped the 'U' and 'D' keys to your 'Edit Super Favourite' 'Move Up' and 'Move Down' commands, while the user is navigating their super favourites?!

Just think how much more efficient it would make such editing?!

You could even "one up" Kodi Favourite behaviour by mapping the "Del" key to your 'Edit Super Favourite' 'Remove favourite' command. (I don't in fact understand why the key isn't mapped to do this for Kodi favourites already, given that it doesn't do anything else!)

RE: [RELEASE] Super Favourites AKA Super-Addon Creator - tvguru - 2016-04-22

Hi everyone...

My wife and I have been Kodi warriors last few months and have spent much time setting up our own skin settings (some call a build I guess) with all kinds of categories such as a section for our kids, sports for me, TV shows for her, etc... using links from addons (not addons).

We cherry pick links from certain addons and send them to a indexed Super Favorite folder. We have been doing this for the last few months. However, with the latest situation regarding devs taking down their addons... we are finding many links not working.

So my question is this... without clicking on every link to see what the addon is in order to remove if not working.... is there an addon or way that we can manage and see what addons are connected to our links in our Super Favorites?. We like to keep are Kodi clean and operational for our kids and 89 year old grandmother.

Example: I have many links in my sports category from many different addons like *****, ******, **** etc... Like Sky Sports 1 -5. So now that ****** sports has taken down their addon, and without clicking on every link to find ******** sports links in order to remove without having to click to see if they work...

Is there a way to search out all the links that are directly connected to my sports Super Favorites folder??

Hope I have made some sort of sense here.

Thank you in advance.

RE: [RELEASE] Super Favourites AKA Super-Addon Creator - ed_davidson - 2016-04-22

Hi Sean,

I managed to get the download menu to come up and have got it working. Just wondering if it was possible to attach the Download using SF to the now playing menu. Im not sure that menu comes up like a regular menu or not.
The only thing im trying to accomplish is to be able not to have the global menu enabled and one click from viewing a movie to be able to down, load it.

The addon is awesome anyway, Im just asking the question if it is possible. Im really happy with the download feature period.

Regards

Without getting involved in the murky side of addon take downs, the simplest solution is to uninstall any addons that are no longer working, they will then automatically not show in SF (assuming you haven't enabled the "Show unavailable addons" display setting)

A always find it rather ironic when individuals who steal stuff then moan when other's steal foom them.
