What should i Use ? - dzigi - 2015-12-24 Hello guys, i have a question about my tv/amp/speakers I Have a new Philips android tv with Kodi installed (obviously) and an older Hi-Fi Onkyo receiver with 2.0 Jamo speakers. The receiver has only aux input. I have it connected to Sound Blaster XFi and a pc and it sounds great, but i want to use it with the tv for my mp3/flac collection on a NAS. The tv has toslink output and headphone out, for now i have connected from 3.5mm headphone out with high quality cable to rca on my receiver and it sounds ok. My question is whether switching to digital out, toslink to rca converter make any noticeable difference in quality, is the onboard dac of tv fine or i will get something extra with some amazon converter. Thank you. RE: What should i Use ? - Ned Scott - 2015-12-24 If analog is the only input you have on your amp, then the TV's analog output (headphone out) should be just fine. Sometimes devices have sub-par analog output and can benefit from a better DAC, even a cheap USB one, but I would be surprised if Philips messed that up on such a new model TV. RE: What should i Use ? - dzigi - 2015-12-24 Yes it analog only because its quite old, but i like the sound more from this one than many newer amps which i've listened to. As far as the quality of the Philips out i think you are right, maybe some day i will buy a optical to rca converter, just to do some A-B tests with some friends, just to see how that goes, and i will let you know RE: What should i Use ? - dzigi - 2016-02-03 I have bought this from Inakustik http://www.in-akustik.de/en/cables-and-accessories/home-hifi/accessories/star-audio-converter-digital-analog-00315002/ I have done some A/B tests with some friends with the onboard Dac and this one, same songs, same levels. Two friends and me, guessed it 6/6 every single time without cheating which was the DAC from the TV which was the Inakustik one. The sound from the TV wasn't bad but compared to this i say 20% better. The stereo image is a bit wider, i don't know how to say it with words. it is like i added speakers in between the two and the sound is more balanced, anyway i'm glad that i didn't wasted my money. |
