I would like to build my own htpc on a small footprint like the Revo. I see a lot of great systems suggested with fairly large cases. I don't need a DVD or Blu ray player I do not need wifi I have cat 5 to the cabinet. I have 2t on an external Hard drive that I am now using on my original XBOX so HD on board is not a big issue. I would like to go beyond the capabilities of my old XBOX and be able to use everything that's now available on the new XBMC platform streaming, 1080p and etc. I currently have a Philips 47"TV, LG Home theater with blu-ray and netflic capabilities with the smart TV and a Harmony 880 remote.

I know I can buy the revo fairly cheap that's not the issue I would like to build my own.

Any suggestions?

There are a number of small cases, some look fancy like smaller Mac mini's.

Somebody here showed a build using an Asus mobo, an Abey EMC 600-s case and an SSD. That was a very cool build... but I can't fint the post right now.

That is interesting. Pretty good job. It would be awesome to make one out of Carbon Fiber.

I like the idea of making my own. I build custom furniture for a living a case out of Bolivian Rosewood would be nice.

One other thought is an old school look. How about a new mother board in an old original XBOX.

I thought a little more about the xbox case. Its to big but it would be cool to use the case, but I think I will do my own in wood.

Now for a mother board what should I be looking for? Do they make one with Ethernet and not WiFI? Do I need a fan?

Maybe someone could just point me to a build that I could use that I could substitute my custom wood case. Again Basically what I want to do is replace my original XBOX with a htpc that can do the 1080p and stream from ice-films, you tube and others. No games or windows applications.
