Hdmi audio stop working after display switch
#1
Hi all,

I'm having trouble with ati and realtek audio driver and i dont know where to start.

Here is how i'm hooked up

[ati 7870] > hdmi > [onkyo nr616 input 1] > hdmi > tv
[back panel 3.5mm jack] > audio cable > rca adapter > [onkyo pc input]
[front panel 3.5mm jack] > pc speaker

I use the 1st option for xbmc hd bit stream
2nd option itunes music to zone 2
3rd option when in front of pc (skype youtube etc.)

I use an harmony one That calls a monitor switch from pc to tv when I wanna go in xbmc.

Everything was working fine until a changed my videocard. I upgraded from a 6850 to a 7870

Now when I switch to the tv with the profile in ccc (called by the harmony by sending win+1 command) I get an error in my hardware setup saying pass trough audio is not recognize and I need to reboot to get sound working again. It's a pain.

I tried the latest ati driver and the beta. I also tried the Realtek one.

How can I make this work. If I buy a cheap sound card for iTunes and pc uses will it work ?
How can I get rid of all audio driver and in what order should I reinstall them in order for it to work ?

I love my setup as it allows me to play iTunes in the kitchen while wife or kids whatch 5.1 movie or tv show in the living room. They control the tv with harmony one and I'm able to control my zone 2 with apple remote app and onkyo app on iPhone. I'd hate to lose that.

I'm using windows seven 64 bits

Thanks for your help

I've had the same problem since Frodo. This is because of Windows Hot plug.

I have searched for every possible and impossible solutions since December 2012 - and have not found any solutions other than "The HDMI pin 19" solution!

In short - Disconnect HDMI PIN 19 (hot plug detection) . I bought a cheap HDMI connector in china and cut the cord - connected the PC turned it on and it has worked since.

My setup is PC (Acer Revo 3600, win 7/32bit) > HDMI> Amplifier (Denon) > HDMI> TV (Noname)

For HD audio in XBMC you need to select the WASAPI - HDMI device in the audio setting, however the Realtek driver does not work with XBMC in WASAPI mode so you MUST use the AMD High Definition Audio driver.

Remove all drivers using http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/171469...river.html

Follow Option 2 to remove both Realtek and the AMD driver if you still have it and make sure to do "Uninstall Both the Device and Device Driver" after which reboot PC which should then switch to a Microsoft provided driver, only once in that state reload AMD CCC.

Use the Custom option during the CCC install as this should allow you to select just AMD HDMI audio driver for installation, see http://www.ghacks.net/2012/12/27/what-th...ions-mean/

thanks for the reply. Does it matter if I cut the 19 Pin on the pc or the AV receiver end ?

Thanks for the Reply. I already did that and it doesn't do the trick.

I saw an EDID removal thread somewhere.... could this help ?

I don't think it would matter. The 1st picture i posted shows the 19th pin on a male connector and the 3rd a female connector.
