Solved Kodi lowering system volume

Never mind, I figured out the problem.

/////////

Running 14.2 [ git:7cc53a9 installed via PPA] on a x86_64 machine with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.
System has audio output to a digital output, but Kodi has it set to output via HDMI - this has worked fine for years.

Starting Kodi, the audio is so barely audible I had thought my speakers had broken.
TV and PC works fine together, other applications sound is as expected.
Checked my audio settings, hadn't changed a thing since installing the new version months back.

Turns out my per-application audio setting for Kodi was at about 10%. I put it back to max, watch some TV, then as soon
as the episode is finished and no audio plays for a while the sounds goes back down to 10%. I think it goes back to being low after audio inactivity.
This all can happen while I'm still in Kodi.

There is as much chance of this being a problem caused by Ubuntu, but I would like to rule Kodi out before I take my problem to a different site.
It seems that Kodi is the only thing effected, which is why I come here first.

So does anybody know why Kodis volume is being lowered or by what? Any way to have it stay consistent?

The debug run I did, the issue occurred.
System volume is max, Kodi per-application was set as max on the last run, yet the sound has been lowered.
Leaving it on for a while and playing a movie, the audio was still low. I increased it and the audio was fine.
Then I closed the movie and left it idle.
I already notice that on my second monitor, the per-application audio has been lowered.

I should have read my debug more thoroughly, wow. I think it took me literally 2 minutes after submitting the post to find it.

Turns out that Passthrough was enabled somehow, which disabled the options to change volume within Kodi.
The default must have been set as -40dB, which lowered the system per-application volume each time I stopped watching a video.

I can't remember enabling passthrough recently, nor do I remember lowering the volume in Kodi for it to set that as default. I must be going crazy.

Sorry for the hassle.

Pardon the bump on your already resolved thread, but I'm experiencing the same exact issue with Kodi 15.

Log is located at : http://xbmclogs.com/pdvrcgbsb

Question is, in 15 I don't see the passthrough option as you suggested in your post, does anyone have any ideas as to how to resolve this for Isengard?

Cheers.

Read the wiki please: http://kodi.wiki/view/PulseAudio
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.
