Hello Kodi Devs,
I love Kodi. It's pretty much the default front end to my HTPCs with a Plex server running in the background. Now I do own 2 Roku's ( a 3 and Stick) and a AFTV stick. I wanted to know will there be a Kodi media player available for the ROKU in the near future. I currently use the plex app as the front end to Plex on the Roku's but would like Kodi for this role. I know there is AFTV stick that you can install Kodi on it and yes I do own one of those but I think the Roku has better support and features the what AFTV has and doesn't keep me tied into Amazon. The AFTV is flexible because of the Kodi media player. It can see my Plex server and network shares. Without it AFTV would be useless as is the Chromecast.

This would be great if Kodi came to Roku's. Kodi supports all media types especially DLNA.

I just wanted to put this out there as Kodi is great!

Short answer is that Kodi can not (ever) be supported on Roku is because Kodi is a native C/C++ application and Roku does does not support (or rather allow) native C/C++ applications. Roku's SDK only support script applications that are written in Roku's own BrightScript language.

Reason that Kodi can run on Android is that Google provide an NDK (Native Development Kit) for Android, including for Android TV. The Android NDK is a toolset that allows you to implement parts of your app using native-code languages such as C and C++ programing-languages. This also applies to Android derivatives (custom or forked Android firmware) such as Amazon Fire TV, CyanogenMod, Remix OS, and similar forks of the Android OS.

Apple does the same for iOS/tvOS which is why Kodi could be ported to iPhone, iPad, iPod and the Apple TV too:

And no, Kodi can not be ported to the BrightScript script language (or any other scripting language for that matter). So the only thing you can do is go complain to Roku for not having its own NDK and not supporting native C/C++ applications, like Google does for Android, and Apple goes for iOS/tvOS.

All you do is screen mirror Kodi from a PC or your cell, you don't need to install anything.

Works the same as streaming with Plex except no app installed.

I don't think Kodi and RokuOS are compatible with each other. Kodi developer knew this and that is why there is no native Kodi app for Roku. Amazon Firestick can install Kodi in it. These guys are talking something about Kodi on Roku here https://www.thetechtoys.com/install-kodi-roku/

They are talking about Screen Mirroring, the article is Clickbait. Read the article yourself and you will see it's just a Clickbait headline. Everything they have written has already been covered in this thread.
