Did some looking at this. I have not attempted to find/look at the specific add-on referenced (no link to source, only available via some repository I didn't feel like wading through).
However, if the addon is using Python module "requests" to handle https transactions, I note that the Kodi repository add-on script.module.requests was updated to ver 2.12.4 on Jan 16, 2017 and in that update is included a new cacert.pem file. So if this add-on stopped working after updating script.module.requests, I'm guessing the site is using a cert root not in that file (which IIRC is derived from Mozilla).
