Status of AMD64 version ...

Question
I have read several posts and I would like to know the status of the AMD64 version if possible.

I have the 'unsupported' 64 bit version installed it seems to work fine except for accessing a samba share drive (simply dies).

I have the 32 bit installed on another ubuntu box and it runs fine.

Should I wait for updates, as they seems to be coming on a regular basis, or would you recommend reinstalling ubuntu 32 bit? Or perhaps a 32 b-bit chroot?

Are there any problems w/ installing 32 bit OS on a 64 bit PC?

Regards,
Scott.

Installing 32bit ubuntu is probably your best bet. There's too much on the plate getting things flawless under 3 platforms on one arch, let alone throwing in another.

the current status is still "unsupported." we simply don't have enough developers with 64-bit systems to officially support the platform. the few of us that do have machines try to at least make sure it will compile and run. you can help the effort by submitting patches or donating (http://xbmc.org/support/donate/). If you donate you can probably make a note that you would like your donation to go toward some specific goal (buying some 64-bit hardware for the team or just fixing samba on amd64). If you'd prefer to donate hardware, get in contact with one of the project managers (pike or gamester).

that being said i'd suggest keeping your 64-bit os and filing bug reports (when it comes back up). it's the only way anything is ever going to improve. if we don't know it's broke, we can't fix it. you can keep a chroot environment or dual boot a 32-bit version if you'd like as back up. I've also heard reports that you can just run the 32-bit version (without chroot) in Ubuntu AMD64 by making sure you have 32-bit libraries on hand (search the forums).

If you choose to go with the 32-bit OS (either dual boot or solo) there shouldn't be any issues installing it. Just pop the disc in and go.

Will do. I've submitted bug reports in the past for various xbox builds, so i don't mind doing the same for the linux version.

It's interesting, I've never installed linux before, just dicked around with live distros, but it's going extremely well.

if you whant to build XBMC on 64bit you may need a workaround.

once configure is end to make tipe the following end not the "simple" MAKE:

Code:
CFLAGS="-I/usr/lib64/dbus-1.0/include -I/usr/lib64/glib-2.0/include" make

Hi,

I am using xbmc an on amd64 Debian with an Intel Q6600.

1) I have random crashes when I try to read videos.
2) I had to recompile my ImageLib-x86_64-linux.so from cximage because the binary given from the cvs is not working.
3) I didn't find howto activate the debug logging, my xbmc.log is always
