i have many "normal" mpg files that plays fine, skip forward & backwards works fine, but not pause.

the "back" button that usually works as pause, does not work, nor does the pause button on the remote.
(does not work == nothing happens)

it's been fixed. please search in future.

note that as a work around in the meantime you can switch to the gui where pause will work (only from remote though, unless you've mapped a gamepad button to the pause action).
