first time user...just installed 10.1 and then the beta...I cannot load either of them.
Running windows 7 pro 32 bit when i try to load the appliction i get the error message that states.
CApplication::Create() failed - check log file and that it is writable
Anyone have any idea what the issue is? where is the log file stored?

Make sure you aren't running XBMC for the first time through remote desktop.
I always get that error if I run XBMC for the first time through remote desktop after an install or update.
Also, try running in portable mode and see if you get the same error.

right, i get that too unless you select windowed mode, before going into remote desktop. enabling windowed mode allows me to open xmbc via remote desktop.

You don't have the correct video drivers installed. Windows is using the default video driver and this won't work with XBMC. You need to grab the correct video drivers from the manufacturer's web site.

Thanks JR,
I'll give it a go and see what happens.
