Unfortunately a power supply like that won't fit in the stand.

I'll give max_usb_current=1 a try with one of my current 2A power supplies if the new cables do not work.

I've finally got it working with the following setup.

New Y cable with 28AWG wiring, 2x iPhone chargers and setting max_usb_current=1 in the config.txt.

Thanks for all your help.

I thought I'd post a link to the cable I'm using if anyone else needs my not ideal setup.

This practically guarantees that the full use of the charger/power supply will not be reached because an inferior cable will be attached!

By simple googling I found this webpage with a review of cables.
