Hi all.

I have a synology server and use ftp from kodi to connect to it.

Recently I noticed one of my kodi machines could not connect to their ftps shares over the internet anymore.

I tried to set up a share again.
You can add the network location. It shows the directories. But takes forever to do it. Then when you go to the share, it just shows working for ever and never reaches it.

I have this on android, windows, raspberry pi and linux. These are all the same pre set up shares which used to work fine with exactly the same settings.

The server didnt change either. Its ftp with explicit tls. So ftps.

I found othera having similair problems, but no solutions..

Any idea?

To receive meaningful assistance you will need to provide a full debug log.

If you are using the Basic Method, then ensure the following is applied...
1.Enable debugging in Settings>System Settings>Logging,
2.Restart Kodi
3.Replicate the problem.

If you are using the Advanced Method ensure you have correctly created and applied the advancedsettings.xml file.

In both instances, you should see the word DEBUG throughout the log.

I read a lot of posts here in the meantime and see logs are always needed.
If I have the time, I'll make one tonight.
I read the log on my phone. I will add it here.

In the mean time I was trying to exclude when it does and doesnt work.

Kodi works on my phone and home ubuntu computer with ftps connection on my home wifi network. 
Not on same phone on 4g or when I use it as hotspot for other phones. Nor on my friends wifi network. From phone or pc (win)
From the DS file app I can share movies to kodi media centre and it will work over internet through any network.
Any ftp program on any of my platforms on any network connect to the server without problems.
Btw. Server does not let ftp connect without tls.

So what I know now; the problem is the way kodi sets up the connection. Some networks like it. Some dont.
But why?

Ah well. Didnt see a fix at all the oter people saying the same also.
Guess ftp is just not the shizzledizzle anymore. Its all this cool and hot sftp and webdav.

So I just changed the server and players to do webdav instead.
Works just like this did before.
