GPU assisted h264 Playback in ubuntu?
#1
I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 on my Asrock ION 330,
i already installed nvidia-glx-195 and nvidia-195-libvdpau, but XBMC still struggles when playing h/x264 videos in 1080p and takes 100% CPU usage.
I also disabled antialiasing in the nvidia panel, didn't help.

hm what do you mean?
i don't think its a bug or anything, i think i just missed to setup some things.

if you mean what version of XBMC i'm using, i think its the 9.11 stable,
i just installed it with this commands:

Code:
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install xbmc
$ sudo apt-get update

Hi.

I have the excact same problem on my Asrock 330, with clean minimal installation of ubuntu 9.10 and xbmc 9.11 and nvidia 195.30 driver, so I assume that vdpau is broken in this constellation.

It was no problem playing the same file before. (ubuntu 9.04, xbmc 9.11, nvidia 190.32)
I've not downgraded my nvidia drivers yet, maybe it's worth a try...

Hi

It looks that 195.30 has vdpau broken or so. Upgrading to 195.30 from PPA: http://ppa.launchpad.net/the-vdr-team/vd...mic/ubuntu karmic
causes higher CPU usage on HD playback (Nvidia GT220). Previous version I think had better accelation for H.264.

Janusz
