Hoping someone can help me out here. The problem I'm having is that my Xvid/AC3 avi files stutter, and no audio is produced. Unfortunately, almost all of my rips are Xvid/AC3, because that seems to be what my Xbox360 likes best. Regardless, I really don't want to re-encode my library. Those Xvid rips with stereo audio play just fine.
Here is a list of facts so far:
* PC is Foxconn NT-A3500 with AMD E-350 / ATi 6310HD, and 4GB RAM.
* Base OS: Xubuntu 12.04 (32-bit)
* XBMC Variant: Xvba (recommended by this guide)
* ATi Driver: Installed via recommmended method (as of 8/28).
* Other OS Info: PulseAudio has been removed as recommended.
* Using HDMI for combined audio/video.
* Sound plays fine in XBMC under almost all conditions.
* Receiver does NOT have AC3 decoding built-in. When the AC3 passthru option is checked, I get nothing but digital noise.
I can see I'm not the only one with this problem, however I couldn't find anyone with the EXACT same problem, who had actually solved it. Given the newness of the video drivers and the fact that I built from the Xvba branch, I'm leaving all possibilities open.
Am I at the mercy of ATi and their reluctance to support Linux hardware decoding, or is there something I can do to alleviate the problem? I've read about some people configuring certain file types to play on third-party Linux mediaplayers/decoders. Might this be a good solution, or am I limited entirely by the hardware?
Any chance that this would be working under 64-bit Xubuntu?
Any other ideas?
Thanks!
