The EPG is pulled from the enigma2 box - so I don't see your problem. Configure your box to have EPG data available, and then you will also have EPG within XBMC.
Personally I'm simply using the EPGRefresh plugin on my enigma2 box to populate the EPG data over EIT. In Germany the EIT EPG (the EPG that is being transmitted with the transport stream) is normally quite good, so I'm not using anything else. But of course there are other many other plugins that are able to fetch EPG data from numerous sources...
Regarding the channel switch time: I didn't time it, but it feels like something about 10 seconds...
