Thanks for explaining it in such detail I get it now. It's a shame really because it would have been flawless having all that content inside XBMC. It was my main reason for trying Viaplay. At this point I can not justify paying for the service if I have to jump between browser and XBMC all the time. Maybe further down the line...we'll see.

This might not be a solution for you, but if you are using the Viaplay addon on Windows the playback support is somewhat better.
You can use remote control (MCE remote) or keyboard with media-buttons which makes the playback more convenient.
And when playback is stopped you will return to XBMC...

Unfortunately I use OSX. I have a Mac Mini hooked up to my TV and I control XBMC using my iPhone. What you're describing can still be achieved but it's nowhere near as smooth and efficient as having in-app playback in my opinion.
