Gigabyte J1800N-D2H installed last week,
Finally got around to installing and testing various XBMC versions this week-end
- On Linux Mint debian edition (March 2014) there were various crashes with any Gotham alphas/betas. Either from ppa repositories or by compiling from source (segfault when using the \ shortcut to go fullscreen, segfault with the media scrapper). This is all probably related to wrong library versions, but it also can be a result of the intel / mesa bugs I saw reports off for Ivy Bridge GPUs.
- Finaly tested Ubuntu 14.04 and I'm very pleased with the result. Gotham beta 4 from the unstable PPA works well, CPU usage is low when using VAAPI and even without it, 720p content is fluid. (my TV is 720p only so I don't much care for 1080p currently). I will probably switch to Mint Cinnamon when it's available.
Anyway, the hardware works well. Onboard sound is a load of crap but that was to be expected (my Hifi DAC/pre-amp died last week, so I had to be creative). Only 5 USB ports might be an issue for some but that's ok for me currently. I haven't tested fancy addons or skins so I can't debate the performance of the UI under load.
Next: SteamOS (but that's out of topic here )
