No idea if this will prove to be of any value, but here's what I've determined so far:
The wav files play fine up until around 36000 bytes, and after that they start to get truncated. I can't hear truncation on a 35941 byte wav, but can on a 37102 byte one.
They'll then continue to play, albeit truncated up to about the 49000 byte mark where they crash xbmc.
The largest wav that I saw play without crashing was 48326 bytes. It was truncated, but didn't crash. The smallest wav I've seen crash xbmc was 48872 bytes.
So again, no idea if the specific numbers above are of any value, but I can say now with extremely high confidence that it's definitely related to the length of the wav files being played.
If you replace one of the skin GUI sounds with this wav file, does it crash the same way?
Can you upload a crashing wav file and I'll have a look.
