What Marcel has done is not connected to what Kodi already does with regards to animated posters. Yes you're correct that since Jarvis you can use animated gifs in I believe all areas i.e. posters, logo, backgrounds basically Kodi now supports the use of gifs. So if you select anything gif manually then as far as I know it should work. I can't see a reason why widgets would be different as I think it uses the 'artwork' assigned to the item and if you've assigned gifs then they should be used. But Mr.V is the Widget guru and may know more??
What Marcel has done is include some calls to a db that user rshicks had created in connection this his Kyra for Kodi addon. This db is slowly being updated and will house animated posters and backgrounds for movies. There is nothing in Madnox right now that uses these new calls from Marcel, that is in dev.

So, my idea was to ask Marcel if he could plugin the db from and make calls available to get either the poster or background and he has done that now as you've seen in the latest SH notes.
Right now, I'm trying to test it but for some reason it's not working for me. But besides that the ideas for Madnox and animated gifs is something along the lines of:
1) Users can manually assign animated gifs and Kodi will display already.
2) A new switch to use 'Skinhelper Animated Posters/Backgrounds'. Which when hopefully working would mean that if a poster or background exists in this new db then the skin would use that otherwise use what is assigned to the item in question. This would mean you would not have to have animated gifs locally.
3) A secondary switch to use local animated Posters / Backgrounds. This one would mean that you could just place a poster.gif in your folder and then if the switch is active it'll use that otherwise what is scraped to the movie / tvshow etc.
There's a lot to figure out and test and probably more to ask Marcel to do if he can and then there's controls for all the views in case users only want animated posters on this view or that view etc. etc.
This will take time to introduce into Madnox in full but it's on the list and I'll see what I can do.
