I've raised a github request and received the following reply from the dev:

Yep these icons are best viewed in list mode. They're taken from the nba website, this is the code where the url is:

If you find another source for those images, please let me now. Feel free to make a pull request too

I haven't found the time to look for better icons, but feel free to pitch in if one of you do

Update: Got a mail from the admin from the Github. Should be fixed :-)
