Kodi & SPMC are different, specifically because Kodi is v17 & SPMC is based on v16. So guides for SPMC shouldn't be used with Kodi.

If Kodi is working well for you then use it, but if you want try SPMC then you can install it also. As they have different signatures you can run them side by side and decide which works better for you. No one can tell you which you should use with your specific setup, so try them both & make the decision yourself.

Oh, no! I've already used the same guidelines in both players (Kodi and Spmc). But I don't see any difference between them. I tried some movies with both, but it seems they play well in the same way. LOL
