... Seeing as there is a button to switch to the source view (which is like it was before), maybe that can be set as a default if more find this clearer?...

You can do this in your preference page.

1. Top right corner, click your username
2. Select User Control Panel
3. Down the left margin, you will see a cog tab. Click it
4. From that menu select Edit Options
5. Under Other Options, tick "Put the editor in source mode by default"
